Curriculam

Every student shall undergo a period of certified study extending over a period of FIVE academic years from the date of commencement of his/her study for the subjects comprising the curriculum in Dentistry of the Kerala University of Health Sciences to the date of completion of the examination.

First Year

  1. General Human Anatomy including Embryology and Histology
  2. General Human Physiology and Biochemistry, Nutrition and Dietics
  3. Dental Anatomy, Embryology and Oral Histology
  4. Dental Materials
  5. Pre-clinical Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge

Second Year

  1. General Pathology & Microbiology
  2. General and Dental Pharmacology and Therapeutics
  3. Dental Materials
  4. Pre clinical Conservative Dentistry
  5. Pre clinical Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge
  6. Pre-clinical Orthodontics
  7. Oral Pathology & Oral Microbiology

Third Year

  1. General Medicine
  2. General Surgery
  3. Oral Pathology and Oral Microbiology
  4. Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics
  5. Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
  6. Oral Medicine and Radiology
  7. Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics
  8. Paediatric & Preventive Dentistry
  9. Periodontology
  10. Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge

Fourth Year

  1. Orthodontics & Dentofacial orthopaedics

Fifth Year

First, Second, Third, Fourth & Fifth BDS courses are considered separately and classes and ranks are awarded separately. Those who fail to secure 50% of marks in a particular subject will be declared as failed in that subject and they will have to appear for examinations in the subjects concerned subsequently. Failed candidates will have to undergo additional course of remedial teaching. As per the norms of the university, carry over may be granted. “Carry over” means, for example if a student passes two of the three subjects he/she will be promoted to the next year, but will have to clear the failed subject before appearing for the subsequent year’s exam. This will be applicable to students as per the pertinent rules.

Eligibility criteria for appearing the University Examination will be declared at the beginning of the course. The requirements to be completed are as follows:

  1. 80% of attendance in examination subjects and 70% in non-examination subjects taught in the year.
  2. Completion of the work specified for the year. This includes practical and clinical assignments.
