The Department occupies a 7500 square-foot location in the second floor of the College building with a state-of-the-art orthodontic facility and clinical laboratory; reception and waiting area; computer, cephalometric analysis data-processing, and photographic room; a well-equipped library; orthodontic appliance construction & plaster work laboratories; an ultra-modern seminar room, Postgraduate & Undergraduate rooms, Conference Facility as well as the faculty rooms.

The Department of Orthodontics at SSDC holds international reputation with the didactic activity of its faculty members. At the Department, we pride ourselves on delivering the best and latest in patient care as well as offering the best preparation for our undergraduate and postgraduate students. The experienced teaching staff is composed of five full-time members who hold interest in various research programs. The Department is under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Vinod Krishnan MDS, MOrth RCS, FDRCS, PhD. Other Faculty include Prof DrNandakumar MDS, DrManoj M MDS (Reader), DrAshwin V Thomas MDS (Sr. Lecturer) and DrSujithSivarajan MDS (Sr. Lecturer). The department has also has five international publications in high impact, peer reviewed journals to its name.

There are about 500 on-going orthodontic cases in the department and all our faculty members actively participate in providing the patients with good and prompt care that they require. We hold a strong undergraduate and postgraduate teaching program and our students have triumphed at various regional conferences as well as national examinations. The department holds collaboration with various prestigious research institutions in and around Trivandrum such as National Institute of Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST), Rajiv Gandhi Center for Biotechnology (RGCB), Biomedical Technology wing of Sri ChithiraThirunal Institute of Medical Science and Technology (BMT- SCTIMST) and Karivattom campus of University of Kerala.
