DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH DENTISTRY

Department of Public health dentistry is concerned primarily with prevention of oral diseases. The department offers comprehensive oral health care for the patients. The department also conducts outreach programmes to reach the rural population, where it conducts health awareness sessions and also offers various preventive services.

The Department is involved in training under graduate students and interns in speciality, which includes Comprehensive Dental Care, Dental Education, School Dental Education, Health surveys and Biostatistics. We are equipped with a portable dental chair with all the necessary accessories, which helps in providing dental services in rural areas and under-privileged sections of our society.

Objectives:

On completion of the undergraduate training programme the graduate should:
➢ Apply the principles of health promotion and disease prevention.
➢ Have knowledge of the organization and provision of health care in community and
in the hospital service
➢ Have knowledge of the prevalence of common dental conditions in India
➢ Have knowledge of community based preventive measures
➢ Have knowledge of the social, cultural and environmental factors, which contribute
to health or illness.
➢ Be able to administer hygiene instructions, topical fluoride therapy and fissure
sealing.
➢ Be able to educate patients concerning the etiology and prevention of oral disease
and encourage them to assure responsibility for their oral health.

Outcome:

1. Demonstrate knowledge on Health, disease and its psychosocial and ecological
dimensions, epidemiology, Health care delivery system and administration
2. Demonstrate knowledge on Epidemiology of oral diseases, dental health care
delivery, Finance and practice management, biostatistics and research methodology
pertaining to dental public health.
3. Demonstrate knowledge on prevention of oral diseases and also to be competent
enough to interpret signs and symptoms and also to investigate and diagnose
common oral diseases

regulations,Preparednesstobepartofdisasterreliefteam
5. Demonstrateskillsfor recording indicesfororal diseases, formulatingsurveys,
